Tasogare Otome X Amnesia In Review 5/10

Somewhere along the way Tasogare became lost within its own universe, struggling to grasp its its own darkness with the amount of fan service, romance, and comedy. Tasogare was a disappointment, but despite its inability to thrive off the essence of eeriness and haunting atmospheres, it was enjoyable to an extent.

The major flaw with the show is how it tried so hard to play itself off as a sad romance story, a-midst blood stained backgrounds and dark spooky atmospheres. The atmospheres were very well done but the issue was how often they played off some ecchi or comedy in front of these great set pieces, ruining the moment.

The finale was a huge troll end, I was almost brought to tears with what I thought was the perfect ending, only to be disappointed by the end of the credits.

The characters were somewhat shallow but are overall likable enough to keep watching. Our female lead Yuuko was the foundation the show revolves around, and she does well to invoke scenes of loneliness and sadness. Her counter part, Shadow Yuuko acts as the evil entity creating some awesome moments of thrill. Despite Yuuko's performance, too many of her scenes revolve around a mushy romance with Teiichi, which often flips our view of the show from mystery thriller to romantic ecchi comedy. The show is unable to balance these two themes and I really wish they would have integrated them together a bit better. While this was bothersome for the majority of the show, the ending does quite well to introduce a complete Yuuko that balances out her personality issues and contrasts well with the ecchi romantic Yuuko personality we come to know. The remaining two support characters make an attempt at being Teiichi's love interest, but they fall short of capturing that convincing feeling and are often there to just push Teiichi along his struggling role.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a light thriller. The amount of ecchi, romance, and comedy isn't overboard and the eerie and mysterious scenes are well done and can really draw you in with their amazing atmospheres.

Overall a 5/10 for its quality moments but lack of smooth integration of all its themes it tried to master.

Tasogare Otome X Amnesia - 9 - Less Love More Thrill

I have been waiting for an episode like this one since I started watching Tasogare Otome X Amnesia. After countless ecchi moments with Yuuko and stupid mysteries that unveil nothing, episode 9 finally takes in the darkness and uncertainty of the atmosphere. This show has some pretty amazing sunset scenes, shrouding the school in a dark mystery that can only lead to an unhappy ending, unfortunately this amazing artwork is the only thing about the show that creates this atmosphere.

This episode was far greater than anything I expected. Yuuko has always been cheerful, playful, and crazy about Teiichi, but in order to maintain her happy mood she has created Shadow Yuuko, the embodiment of her hatred, pain, jealousy, loneliness and distraught past. I absolutely love Shadow Yuuko's presence, she brings a sense of thrilling mystery and a killer smile shrouded in a dark mist, which is much needed to tone down Yuuko's happiness.

This was the first time we see an exposed Yuuko, no longer does she place her pain and sorrow on her shadow, which seems to be a step in the right direction for her after almost loosing all her memories once again. I always thought Yuuko's past and unwillingness to accept her own pain was childish, however this episode made me realize that having to live through such pain all alone for several decades would be too much for anyone to handle. I would like to know Shadow Yuuko's intentions and whether or not Teiichi could become a victim of Shadow Yuuko's wrath.

For the first time I felt uneasy and uncertain for the events that followed throughout the episode, there was no lovey dovey or silly mystery, instead the show finally grasped its dark and ominous atmosphere.  It's as if the producers decided to throw out all that "I love you" crap in the last episode and leave it at home in order for us to get a decent mysterious thriller episode that isn't plagued by the amount of Yuuko love. I can only hope the next episode is just as thrilling, rather than some silly moments of Teiichi seeing Yuuko's past.

Tasogare Otome X Amnesia 2-8 Enjoyable Despite Its Flaws

Tasogare Otome X Amnesia has been a let-down from my initial hopes of telling a tale of loneliness. Being a ghost that is Yuuko when only two people (possibly three) can see you would normally be a lonely experience, however Tasogare turned into a mash-up of silly behavior and attempted thrills when really all we see is Yuuko and Teiichi flirt about.

Despite the all the humor and lame mysteries that float about the school where Teiichi solves by pointing at Yuuko, there has been a startling increase of actual unprecedented thrills. Every mystery around the school usually falls on Yuuko being the cause, this cause has haunted another student by the name of Yuuko because every girl at school thinks she has something to do with the mysteries. This new Yuuko went off making up a new mystery in hopes of killing ghost Yuuko's name, but nearly ends up dying herself at the hands of her fellow students. This act of intended murder had surprised me as I began to reminisce about the show "Another". Following this episode we are reminded about the whole point of our paranormal group, to find out information on Yuuko's background in hopes of recollecting her memories. I admit I was slightly guilty of forgetting this fact among the random love humor Yuuko and Teiichi repeat in each episode.

It is funny how the flirting has developed jealousy for Yuuko towards other girls near Teiichi. This normal silliness ends up triggering some actual character conflict and brings forth some thrilling information of Yuuko's memory loss. This sudden turn of events quickly change the atmosphere from lovey dovey humor, into an eerie and unsettling sense of mystery. While this show has not fully converted to the dark side, it gives me hope that I will see a continuation of these suspenseful and creepy moments and possibly more intended suffering other than being pushed down the stairs or holding a knife at someone.

If you haven't been watching the show I can't say I don't recommend it, but it does retain some form of an eerie atmosphere, but mostly its just romance humor with a side of sadness undertones and thriller-esque twists.

Tasogare Otome X Amnesia: First Impression

What happens when you have a a paranormal club where your president is a ghost, who constantly flirts with the only guy who can see her, along with a girl member who can also see her, and another girl member who can't see her? Humor, with a touch of romance, and a hint of sadness is what I found in the first episode. Tasogare Otome X Amnesia had some pretty amusing scenes as the two students who can see Yuuko have to communicate with her in the presence Okonogi who cant see her. This leads to some awesome moments as Teiichi has to remain normal to Okonogi without ignoring Yuuko. The characters are pretty interesting, although Teiichi is only defined by the ghost Yuuko, and doesn't have much of a character otherwise.

Wonder if she would choose another guy if they could see her.
The bulk of the humor will no doubt be found with Yuuko having fun around those who can't see her. If you watched "Another", then you'll remember the dancing scene, and that kind of fun is sure to pop up, except only Yuuko is invisible and Teiichi will look awkward and silly in the eyes of everyone else.

Nothing like kicking over your own grave, leaving Teiiichi to try and explain it.
I see this show using two different methods. An exploration of sadness for being all alone with a limited number of people who can communicate with you, and using the ghost theme to satisfy only the humorous side that was apparent during the show. I hope they balance this out because I love a good show with despair and sadness as a side dish. Assuming they don't go overboard with the humor like Aquarion EVOL, it should be a pretty decent show among the pool of new airings this season.
