Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi 01 - Initial Impressions

What lured me into this series is that the novels were written by the same author as Legend of the Legendary Heroes. I enjoyed watching LOLH, but I was a bit skeptical coming into this one. When you put vampires, fanservice, and a high school setting together, the expectations aren't really high.

Heading for the friendzone?

Something that I did like about this was that the character designs are quite pretty. I definitely prefer the bishounen-like designs for the main males over the usual bland-looking ones. The animation quality wasn't horrible, either, although that could change in future episodes. Looking at the studio Zexcs, they don't really have the track record of putting out anything outstanding, so I don't really have high hopes that this one will be any different.

I'm sure a lot of you thought of Kore wa Zombie.

I don't really mind the pantyshots, but those impossible beams of light annoy me. I mean, there are shots that are right in your face, and other times it's censored out. Is it really going to help boost sales? More on the bad side is that not a whole lot happened in this episode. It was just mainly character introductions and Taito's reunion with Himea.

Perhaps the most interesting scene was the cliffhanger at the end of the episode. The haughty student council president shanked the now de-lolified Himea after her tearful reunion with Taito. All in all, my reaction to this episode can be summarized in one word: unimpressed. Though the story seems to have dual protagonists, so I hope this makes things more interesting. I'm likely going to stick around for the rest of the season simply because it's by the same author as LOLH.
