Wolf Rants: Some Anime Winter 2012 reviews

Okay so here are my quick reviews for most of Winter 2012s anime series. Yeah, I ain’t reviewing all the series that came out or ended this season either because I didn’t watch them or I just don’t feel like making one for ‘em. BTW, I’ve already given Nisemonogatari its own review but I just copy-pasted it here just in case.

Guilty Crown in Review [6/10]

After being one of the most hyped up anime for quite some time, it falls pretty flat in delivering anything close to what they set out to do. It did however provide quite high amounts of entertainment values for all the wrong reasons. To be honest, I was never a huge fan of Code Geass, I found the first season pretty good but nothing amazing, the second season was just a train wreck. Still, being such a high profile anime, I had to see it through, definitely far from the worst I watched, but nowhere near the quality it could have gotten had they spent some more effort on things rather then just throwing money at it.

Guilty Crown 22 - The Final Song?

After a long half year, we finally reach the conclusion for Guilty Crown. To be honest, it was slightly better then I expected, but then I wasn't expecting anything; Too bad they ruined it all in the final 3 random timeskip minutes. I guess it is to be expected that their writing sucks, I just didn't think they could butcher so much in such a short time span. At least some good music came out of this show, the final song at the end just fit perfectly.

Guilty Crown 21 - Use Love to Beat Suffering

So only one more episode until the finale. It has been a rollercoaster of a season. The plot was a train wreck, but at least it did a good job at being so absurd it was funny all season; Even if that was not the intention. The only real highlight this episode was watching Daath vs Shu fight. It was also so humorous to see how they explained the Shu x Inori was to cure each other's "pain". Too bad it was just so terribly done, maybe if they thought of this idea at the start of the anime rather then tossing it in at the end... Oh ya, Souta didn't make the endcard, huzzah!

Guilty Crown 20 - Flashback Time

Loving these endcards they have for Guilty Crown. We got the fated flashback linking all the character's past together as I expected to happen. They were putting way too much emphasis on it for them to skip out on this. Too bad this was just badly put together explanation for all things, at least we will be having 2 major fights (possibly 3) as the finale of this anime.

Guilty Crown 19 - Unlimited Void Works

Oh man, they almost threw the best curve ball in the whole show and made it awesome, but then we had to move back to Shu being the main character. At least Shu is moving back to the "tragic" role which was pretty predictable, they have been forcing that portrayal on him all season; Even if half the time it made no sense. At least we have Shu powered up enough to fight Gai now, I am pretty sure we will be getting a flashback episode of Haruka's past now; That should be mildly entertaining.

Guilty Crown 18 - Through the Eyes of Inori

So a bit late post due to some stuff. Also check out some new banners we added. Onto the episode, we had a very Inori centric episode, we literally follow her around like she is the main character of the show. This anime is quite clearly closing in on the big finale. I am back to watching this show not for the serious plot, but the humour in how serious they try to be. Ass pulling is always fun and games, you never know what they will do next!

Guilty Crown 17 - Need a Hand Shu?

Dear Diary, today was the worst day of my life. It started off swell, I finally got up the courage to fire this guy that was just using me but then everything went to shit. All the people I been abusing turned on me, who would have thought? Then super awesome Gai showed up, which was a dream come true to see him alive. I couldn't wait to tell him how hard I am trying to be like him but then he sliced off my arm and stole my powers. Now Inori will probably run back to Gai and everyone hates me too. There is no one left to love me with Gai back in the picture. I think I shouldn't have tried being Gai so hard cause I clearly can't. Sincerly Shu.

Guilty Crown 16 - Hail Shu!

OH SHIT! This episode had me getting goosebumps with how it started! They really amping this whole show up with Shu's change of heart. This is has turn from super funny to super serious; What they were actually going for from the beginning. It is astonishing I am finally looking forward to this anime because of the plot; Anti-heroes really do make things great.

Guilty Crown 15 - So Hare is Finally Dead

That was a very drawn out, her death flags were flying everywhere from episode 9. I was surprised she even survived so long. This episode was very obvious of how it would end, after all, you have to balance out that obviously broken void. Almost as broken as Inori's one. I guess this will mark the major turning point for the anime, things might actually be looking better without beta Shu.

Guilty Crown 14 - Tsugumi Overload

Well that was an episode I was screaming nope the whole time. This is quickly becoming one of the anime I look forward to every week. Not because it is good, but because it is just so bad it is good. Nothing like a good laugh at this show, I am always wondering what crazy new ass pull they will attempt while trying to remain serious. At least they ended strongly this episode with this Tsugumi end card.

Guilty Clown 13 - Take that 17%

After our intense episode last week, we got a half baked school festival episode. I was expecting some full blown festival but it was cut short pretty badly. At least we got new OP and ED even if the new ED sucked. It was a decent episode I guess, a short break between arcs is pretty common. I guess it was we got so much Ayasa and Tsugumi  screen time that I didn't absolutely hate it.

Guilty Crown 12 - Lost Christmas

Even in the end, Gai gets the girl. They took their time, but they finally revealed what happened on lost Christmas after holding it from us for such a long time. After a three weeks of break, they finally decided they were bored of making a trash anime and decided to finish the arc with a bang, or stab in this case. I still don't think this anime has much hope though. This good episode was probably a fluke, after all, next episode is going to be a school festival. First thing I want to do after losing my friend is to go to a school festival.

Guilty Crown 11 - Undertakers 2.0, Now under new Management!

Another intense episode. It didn't make it awesome though, just how intense I was laughing throughout this whole episode. It was just laughs all around as we watched Shoe creating his own crime fighting squad and Gai's posse all alive "waiting" for Shoe to show up. I just found this episode a riot with their crazy drops of intense moments. As Bakuman has taught me, you can't beat serious humour!

Guilty Crown 10 - The Plot Thickens!

This episode finally kicked this show in gear, it only took half a season. Finally a week where I don't need to drop this show! They accelerated the plot at super high speeds with developments on almost every main plot aspect at once. I think this finally showing some promise. This episode was subbed pretty quickly too, much earlier then usual.

Guilty Crown 09 - Hare Death Flag Raised

I wonder who she is kniting that for?

This episode turned out unexpectedly good. Much better then the previous few episodes but I think it is just a fluke. They happened to appeal to my tastes I guess. It was just nice to see the main character not absolutely useless all episode. I still think it is a fluke, he will go back to an idiot once Gai is back in the picture. Even without Gai, he will manage to act like an idiot when Inori returns.

Guilty Clown 08 - Beach Episode Time!

Nothing like watching a beach episode on a packed subway train! Guitly Crown is all about watching fanservice and Shoe being denser then a rock. I seriously wonder what they were trying to do with their "let us pretend this show is super deep" thing they been trying to push. Seriously, was that final line of this episode suppose to be cleverly hiding foreshadowing? Make it anymore blunt plox; Otherwise Shoe might not get it!

Guilty Clown 07 - Back to School to Create a Harem

So they decided to not even pretend this show wasn't just selling fanservice. I guess it should have been obvious from what Inori walks around in all the time. We finally get some real screen time for the mother and some new student council girl that have both fallen for our main character. His harem seems to grow without him even trying, no different from my other harem anime.

Guilty Crown 06 - Gun + Sword = WMD

This anime is still doing whatever the hell they want. Watching Shu run around like a headless chicken is funny but is quite sad at the same time. This story feels like those stories you pass around the room and each person write a few lines to it. This show is the epitome of slapping stuff together that could look badass with some good graphics to see if it sells.

Guilty Crown Ep05 Rant - Preparation

I realize I'm starting to fall behind on my posts, this is mainly due to BF3, Skyrim, and life in general, but mainly Skyrim and BF3.

The bulk of the episode showed us around Undertaker's base, introducing us to some of its members. It seems everyone here worships Gai like some sort of cult leader. Once again no one really explains what Undertaker's end goal really is. The episode revolves Ayase's introduction and of her training Shu for the upcoming mission. However it really only shows us how pathetic our main character really is, but it's not like we don't have a grasp on that already.

Wrong, he IS hopeless.
The mock battle at the end of the episode should have shown us Shu becoming a man after his training, but instead it shows how Shu only relies on Voids to get him through all his situations.

I initially thought Shu was the only inconsistently portrayed character, but Inori seems to have joined him, congrats Guilty Crown, you've disappointed me even more. We knew that Shu really only joined Undertaker because of Inori, but when Inori tells Shu that her words were a lie (see image above), Shu's heart breaks, telling us that Inori can only belong to Undertaker and to no one else. What makes this inconsistent is the fact that Guilty Crown is trying to play off the "It was all a lie, I don't really care for you" saying. This is such BS, it is pretty clear that Inori looked sad during their conversation, and we all know Inori doesn't show emotions all too often. It would be pretty easy for Inori to act emotionless, unless she actually cared for him. Last episode Inori was sad when Shu was taken into custody. She even disobeyed Gai's orders to save him, forcing Gai to change their plans on the attack, clearly showing once again that Inori cares for Shu. It is so obvious that Inori likes Shu, so what is Guilty Crown trying to do here?
